The Fight Against Wrinkles Starts Now

Have you ever heard the saying about an ounce of prevention? The same is true when it comes to your skin. I know you may be thinking that all that anti-wrinkle cream stuff is for old people. After all they're the ones who have to worry about wrinkles right? Wrong, why wait until you're older to start fighting off wrinkles? Starting early will help to prevent the wrinkles from coming. The fight against wrinkles should start as early as 20 years old. Starting sooner rather than later is always best. It doesn't take much to prevent wrinkles. The advice below will help you to keep your skin looking young and radiant for many years to come.

Nutrition

You've heard that an apple a day keeps the doctor away, but did you know that an orange a day keeps the wrinkles away? Believe it or not, studies have shown that foods that are rich in Vitamin C helps to keep the skin looking young. Scientists who research food found that people who's diet was high in Vitamin C actually had fewer wrinkles than those preferred to avoid Vitamin C.

If oranges aren't your fruit of choice, there are other Vitamin C foods you can choose from such as leafy greens, raspberries, watermelon, kiwi, mangos, tomatoes, blueberries, cauliflower, papayas, and pineapples just to name a few.

Avoid the Sun

Well unless you're an Eskimo chances are you won't be able to totally avoid the sun, but there are ways to protect yourself from the sun. Wearing sunscreen is a great place to start. Never leave out without, especially during the time when the sun rays are the highest which is between the hours of 10:00a.m. and 4:00p.m. during the summer.

In addition to sunscreen you should also wear items that will help to protect your skin from direct sun exposure. A hat with a big rim is a good item to keep on hand if you know you'll be out for a long period of time. Also, remember your sunglasses. Not only do they protect your eyes from the UV rays, but they also prevent you from squinting which causes wrinkles around the eyes.

Put the Cigarette Out

If you are a smoker, not only are you damaging your lungs, but you're also damaging your skin. Did you know that people who are heavy smokers are five times more likely to wrinkle in comparison to people who don't smoke at all? This is true because smoking damages the collagen in your skin. Not only that but squinting and pursing your lips also creates wrinkles over a period of time. If all of that wasn't enough to make you give up the cigarettes maybe the fact that smokers age much faster than nonsmokers will do it for you.

Go to Bed

Over the years scientists have found that getting plenty of rest effects our bodies in many ways. Seven is the magic number when it comes to the number of hours you should sleep each night. Not only are people who get plenty of rest healthier, but they're also smaller and less stressed than those people who don't get enough sleep. When sleeping it's recommended that you sleep on your back. Sleeping on your stomach or your side has been shown to cut off your circulation which can also cause wrinkles.

Moisturize and Hydrate

When it comes to hydrating it's important to remember both inside and out. When your skin is well hydrated it has a more plump look. Now normally when it comes to our body, plump is the last thing we want to hear but as far as the skin goes, plump is a very good thing. Plump skin does not show any wrinkles. In order to keep the elasticity in your skin you should drink water daily, especially when you're thirsty. The recommended amount is 6-8 glasses. Staying well moisturized is something else you should remember to do daily. The purpose of moisturizing the skin, other than to get rid of any unwanted ash, is to keep the moisture inside your body. Each day your body lose moisture and it's important to replenish it.

Unless you've discovered the fountain of youth, you and your skin will grow older one day. While it may be impossible to keep your 20 year old face for the rest of your life, it's not impossible to slow down the aging process. Taking care of your skin while you're young is the solution to growing old gracefully. Remember when it comes to your skin early prevention is key.
